Thousand of diesel drivers across the country can admit to making the fatal mistake of putting the wrong fuel into their cars costing them hundreds of pounds in damages.
Over the past five years, it has been revealed that top Police Forces across the UK, have also been making the vital mistake and had to fork out over £40,000 on the damages that they have caused to their vehicles.
Gadgets have now been invested by the Police, in where a little black box will be stuck inside the fuel cap giving them a message every time they open the fuel cap as to what fuel they will need to fill it with. Funnels have also been fitted in to petrol cars so it is impossible to put in the wrong fuel.
The new gadgets that the Police Force have implemented have cost them less than £4,000 altogether, compared to the £40,000 that they have already spent due to their errors.
2007 figures released from the RAC have shown that every day they are called out to an average of 130 incidents where the wrong fuel has been put in to a vehicle. Repair costs can be up to £5,000 if the tank isn’t drained before turning the engine on.
