Whiplash on the increase
A new report by the Association of British Insurers (ABI), has outlined a sharp increase in Whiplash compensation claims. Whiplash claims have increased by 20 in 2007 with over 430,000 people making claims, totalling to £2bn in payouts.
The increase in accidents has had a knockon affect with the time it is taking for claims to be settled and for injured parties to be treated in a sufficient manner. Many victims are facing long delays in receiving their rehab until the claims are settled.
ABI have found that more than 60 percent of people admit to tailgating whilst driving a work vehicle, where as only 40 percent of people admit to tailgating when driving their own vehicles. They are urging all road users to take care on the road and too keep a safe following distance.
ABI are urging all employers to take out additional policies which will cover their drivers, driving too and from work as they are finding that staff that have had whiplash injuries are affecting business productivity.
