Watch dog warning to Vauxhall drivers

Thirty thousand Vauxhall Vectra and Signum produce after 2003 and Vauxhall Zafiras produced after 2005, which have the 2.2 litre petrol engine, has been under investigation by the BBC Watchdog after serious faults were affecting them.

250,000 cars were recalled in 2008 when a problem arose with the vehicles handbrakes but with the recent problems, Vauxhall are declining to re call. The Vauxhalls in question seem to have faults with their fuel pumps and regulators, which cause the vehicles to cut power to a max of 25 mph endangering the driver’s lives. Many drivers have made complaints that their vehicle will drop power and go into “limp home mode” which will allow the vehicle to reach the garage at a slow speed. One driver was overtaking a lorry on the M40 when his vehicle lost power and he just made it onto the hard shoulder before he caused an accident.

Vauxhall have admitted that there are a few problems with certain models and have announced they will not automatically be paying for the repairs to their faulty vehicles. All Vauxhall cars are sold with a 60,000-mile warranty. Vehicles which are affected and are not cover by the warranty will be looked at on an individual basis and will make a contribution to costs on that basis but will not cover the full repair of the faulty vehicle.
