Following an announcement that vehicle owners insurance providers would be contacted if valuables were left on display in your car, police have carried out an internal inquiry as the allegations were incorrect.
Vehicle insurance companies would not be contacted by the police if valuables were left on display, something that vehicle owners in South Yorkshire had been advised following letters that were distributed by a community support officer; the officer had drivers best interests at heart, however this was against the forces policy who want to help drivers not upset them.
Advisory letters will be sent to motorists by South Yorkshire Police who spot any vehicle with items on display that are tempting to thieves, however no insurance company would be advised. The police hope that the letters will remind drivers and crack down on the number of vehicles that are broken in to each year.
