Volunteers required to trial fords electric vehicle
Occupants in Hillingon, London are being provided with the opportunity to trial an electric vehicle based on the Ford Focus, the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV).
The BEV has been designed on behalf of the UK Government initiative for ultra low carbon vehicles and will be trialed by 20 households in the borough over a three month period. The local council will then ask residents to participate in a charging infrastructure which will be installed into their homes.
There are five vehicles to be trialed from Fords European passenger car range, all of which have been produced using partial public funding from the UK Governments Technology Strategy Board (TSB), for a consortium consisting of Ford, Strathclyde University and Scottish and Southern Energy.
The prototypes are all fitted with a lithium-ion battery which will cover a range of 75 miles at a top speed of 85 mph and can be charged using a 250 volt household electricity supply.
