Vehicle checks take place in Cumbria

Police Vehicle Checks in Cumbria have resulted in 15 vehicles being banned from the road, six of which were issued with immediate prohibitions from being driven on the road and nine with delayed prohibitions.

The police operation took place in Penrith and Carlisle to reduce the number of young people being killed or seriously injured on the roads.

In a space of one afternoon the checks included the use of mobile phones, defective tyres, excess speed and not wearing a seatbelt. A total of 45 offences were uncovered 25 of which were young drivers.
