The United States Insurance Institute for Highway Safety 2008 has been awarded to Subaru’s new Forester scoring high marks for side, rear and offset frontal impact-protection.
These tests are taken in to account worldwide and it’s worth noting that both the UK Foresters and US are Japanese built and imported, therefore they share the same basic potential life saving features
In order to win the award the vehicle must offer the most superior crash protection over all of the vehicles in its class, this does not only need to be the highest marks in front, side and rear tests, but also needs to be equipped with electronic stability control.
Unfortunately nothing can prepare you for the type of accident that you will be involved in, should it happen. However the test that is carried out is based on a 40mph offset accident and a side impact of 31mph. The rear end accident tests the stationary vehicle at 20mph looking at the vehicles head restraints and seat effectiveness.
The award is great news for Subaru as the new version of the Forester goes on sale in the UK.
