Vans more likely to fail MOT

The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) have revealed new figures that show vans with a weight of between 3,000kg and 3,500kg are 10% more likely to fail a MOT than that of a smaller van or car. The figures released show the top three causes of an MOT failure to a van. Number one is the brakes resulting in a third of all failures, the second being lights accounting for just under a third and faults with the suspension caused 15% of declines.

It has always been important to tend to your vehicle as driving without a valid MOT can result in a fine and will invalidate your insurance policy. There are ways in which you can help your van pass its MOT, perhaps the most beneficial, is not to overload your van as this can put a strain on the suspension, it also causes you to have to brake harder in order to slow the vehicle down, this wears the brakes down causing you to fail an MOT.
