Tragic consequences of vehicles at work

One of the lesser reported severe vehicle perils for pedestrians is the risk of being run-down whilst at work; despite the specific inclusion of vehicles at work in the Workplace Regulations 1992 the number of deaths caused by accidents involving cars and moving vehicles at work is still too high.

Only this week the Health and Safety Executive reported that the Fredric Aubrey, a waste management employee died due to injuries he sustained after being run over by a skip loader at work.

Aubrey had been hand sorting waste when the skip loader arrived on site and another member of Aubrey's team climbed aboard the vehicle to tip over one of the skips; as the skip turned, the vehicle driver backed over Aubrey.

Aubrey died five days later, as the court heard that his employers John Stacey and Sons were ordered to pay costs amounting to £89,000. Aubrey's employers had failed to correctly protect employees from work traffic with devastating effects.

Insure My Vehicle provides commercial vehicle insurance and residential car and van insurance to property owners and homeowners across the country providing a direct comparison of insurance premiums.
