Following last week's call to MPs to back the UK automotive industry by Unite union members, Business Secretary Peter Mandelson has been encouraging the implementation of green technologies throughout the vehicle industry.
Toyota has announced that it will be developing a hybrid engine for it Auris model, which are to be built at is Deeside site in Wales; good news for the 4,100 workers employed by Toyota.
Mandelson welcomed the news that Toyota will be using eco-friendly technology within its fast selling car models; Toyota have already sold 370 000 Auris model since its introduction to Europe in 2007.
Parliament has tried to show a dedication to the car industry by offering £2.3 billion loan to companies that match the Automotive Assistance Program's criteria. However companies have been struggling to secure funding because of the strict standards; in fact no funding has yet been dispensed.
It was reported last week that General Motor negotiations regarding Vauxhall would risk over 3000 jobs at their Luton and Merseyside branches and today, Jaguar Land Rover announced that it will have to cut down 300 jobs.
