Modec a Coventry-based electric van maker and the US company Navistar have been praised by ministers after building the first electric commercial vehicle from scratch.
This achievement has been made possible after a recent deal that saw the two companies receive a grant for £23 million, which has come as a huge relief during these times of economic mayhem.
Modec's Chief Executive, Bill Gillespie said: "We are very pleased to partner with Navistar in this new venture. It is a very positive endorsement in the low carbon vehicle technology Modec has developed. Through this deal we will be able to exploit our technological advances in Modec's existing European markets as well as the US. In 2010 Modec will see a significant increase in sales which will enable us to fund our extensive R&D efforts."
The build of the van will be yet another step in the Governments efforts to reduce carbon emissions, and convert vehicles from petrol driven to electrical aided engines.
