Samoa has been preparing itself for a switch over, declaring a two-day bank holiday and banning the sale of alcohol for three days has also been enforced, as citizens get used to driving on the right side of the road.
The Samoan government has taken radical steps to eliminate their reliance on expensive left hand drive car imports from America by changing the side of the road they drive on, in line with other South Pacific islands.
At 6am local time on Monday 7 September, some anti-switch groups predicted mayhem and bedlam as the sudden switch confused drivers. However as officials, stationed at every junction described, the changeover ran smoothly and the emergency services have yet to be called out for an accident.
Samoa is the first country since the seventies to change from left-hand driving, like the UK, to the right and officials in Britain have often wondered if the country should make the switch.
However the population of motorists in UK have long stated that the idea is simply unfeasible due to safety concerns and the amount of money it would cost to reverse driving standards across the country.
Insure My Vehicle provides insurance for left-hand drive cars across the UK ensuring low vehicle insurance premiums for high levels of standard cover.
