A fine of £370 has been issued to a former soldier after the satellite navigation system that he was using led him to a cliff where he and his car ended up balancing off of the edge.
The driver of the vehicle, who nearly fell to a 100 ft death, was charged with a lack of due care and attention whilst behind the wheel; after being led down a dirt track which was not fit for the use of vehicles the driver should have been aware that the sat nav was leading him astray.
As well as the £370 fine, the driver was also issued with £500 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge. The former soldier was also issued with 6 penalty points on his licence, regardless of his pleas that he was sorry and would have never driven without due care and attention.
A policeman who attended the scene commented that when he arrived at the cliff, following the drivers emergency call for help, he was greeted with a humorous yet frightening situation and that it was beyond belief that he had let the sat nav lead him into such an awkward position, with the vehicle teetering on the edge of the cliff.
