Drivers in company vehicles have been reminded that smoking while behind the wheel is against the law if there are more than one person in it.
The law that came in July 2007 to outlaw smoking in workplaces and public buildings includes any company vehicles that is used by more than one employee or transports any members of the public.
The guidelines appear to state that if the company vehicle is used by only one person then it is fine for that person to smoke, however as soon as it is used to transport any members of the public or any other work colleagues then it would have to become smoke free all the time.
Even with the law now being in place 1 year there is still some confusion and debate over the when the law applies to driving company vehicles and when it doesn’t.
