West Oxfordshire District Council has commissioned air quality monitoring for a street in Witney, Oxfordshire following a successful monitoring of Horsefair in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire.
Bridge Street, Witney is one of the most congested streets in the town. Previous tests have shown that both Witney and Chipping Norton streets are the most polluted in the district with levels of vehicle exhaust produced nitrogen dioxide at a all time high. The levels are higher that government guidelines.
Air quality plans have been drawn up for Chipping Norton, proposing the re-routing of heavy vehicles from the A44 through the town centre.
The targets set by the government, apply to roads that have residential aspects, for example Bridge Street, Witney. This street has a mix of homes, shops and businesses.
