A revolutionary new car, powered solely on hydrogen, was unveiled in London on Tuesday. Riverside, the company behind the new vehicle, say that the model proves that hydrogen-powered motor vehicles are ready to go into mass production.
The Riversimple Urban Car emits just 30g of CO2 per kilometre, far less than modern hybrid petrol cars. It has a top speed of 50 mph and can go from 0-30mph in 5.5 seconds.
Nearly £500,000 went into developing the new vehicle and it is expected to cost £200 per month to lease, although producers are yet to set a UK release date.
In a controversial move, developers published designs for the car on the web, meaning that entrepreneurs can manufacture their own models for free. Riversimple believe that creating competition will help develop the market for hydrogen technology.
