HGV and LCV companies have to spend thousands of pounds a year on fuel for their travel, but this could be drastically reduced by the new ECO-Log technology, according to powertrain software specialist Lysanda.
The technology works by using a display, which is installed in the vehicle, which is connected to the on-board diagnostic port. Information regarding the vehicles fuel consumption and carbon emissions is the calibrated and sent through to the driver via the on board display. The information can also be passed through to the company's headquarters using the mobile phone network.
The product has recently been road tested in the 2009 Miles Per Gallon Marathon where they tested it on a Mercedes Benz Vito 111 CDI, with a 2.2 litre diesel engine, where the achieved 53.9mpg compared to the 34mpg figure Mercedes had given. This equates to a total saving on fuel of 35% that compared to the 20,000-mile average for a commercial vehicle is a saving on around £975 a year.
