Insurance Voided by Carelessness
North Yorkshire Police have warned commercial vehicle drivers that leaving keys in the ignition could invalidate any insurance claim. Due to a run of thefts in the county police feel obliged to warn drivers who leave their vehicle unoccupied. Although the thefts are small in number they are keen for this not to develop into a trend, as it is believed that this is the work of organized gangs targeting commercial vehicles specifically. Inspector Abbott from North Yorkshire Constabulary said that drivers could be in danger of losing their livelihoods if insurance companies turn their claim down. He also stated that drivers need to know that their vehicle may be at risk, even though they may well feel safe they should always lock their vans securely before leaving them unattended for any reason.
