How does a 5 pound fill up sound on a brand new white van
This is how much it costs to charge the new Modec commercial vans compared to that of a diesel engine being around £100. The all new, quiet engined and MOT free vans are starting to shape the future of the commervial vehicle market. Modec, the midlands based company invested £30 million into developing these green vehicles and launched the new version in 2007.
Modec have suitably named the van Zev (Zero Emission Vehicle) and have already been approached by Tesco who invested in 15 low emession vans. TNT the courier company have spent £7 million giving them 70 vans that have a current range of 100 tax free miles per recharge. Although there is currently only a small travelling range there are alredy undergoing plans and development on the lithium ion battery which will allow for up to 200 miles on the road. One of the main benefits of these vehicles is that there are only 4 moving parts compared to that of over 1,000 in a normal engine so there is significantly less chance of breakdown. Considering the money you will save on MOT's, Tax, Petrol and breakdown costs the £40,000 van will eventually make you your money back as well as reducing your carbon footprint.
