A gang of 13 have been sentenced to a total of 10 years after they made up car accidents to claim over £250,000 in compensation from insurance companies.
The ‘crash for cash’ scam involved staged road traffic accidents, where they would get a key conspirator, who worked at a garage to tow away the vehicles and fill out bogus paper work to send off to insurance companies.
Detectives, who worked alongside the insurance fraud bureau carried out dawn raids in November 2006 and April 2007 after Police found that insurance claims were being made against collisions that had not involved, or been reported to the Police. The investigation also discovered the photographs that had been taken of the vehicles that were supposed to have been damaged had been contrived. The raids also discovered more evidence that related to the insurance scam.
