All van owners in the in Bidford area may receive an alarm for free under a new security scheme set up by local police. The free giveaway comes after a recent increase in the number of commercial vehicles that have been broken into over previous months. The battery powered remote alarms are to be given away in the hope that the amount of van related crime will drop. The alarms fit easily to the back of any commercial van, South Warwickshire Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership have supplied the donation for the funding of this project.
PC Nick Stephens from the crime reduction unit said: "Tools left in vehicles are often uninsurable, however, the police are realists and often this best advice might not be practicable in certain circumstances. Also, those that follow this advice are finding their empty vans are still being broken into."
He added: "These cheap effective alarms will ensure no thief breaking into a van will want to hang about to be seen and help to protect tradesman from loss and distress."
The alarms are available in the Warwickshire area for all van owners to pick up, but in order to receive them free of charge you must first prove that you live in the local area.
