Car firm Ford have launched the Tourneo Connect EEV as part of a range of electric vehicles unveiled in London earlier this week.
Ford say that the vehicle has been developed both to support the government’s drive to cut CO2 emissions and to test the vehicles suitability for the European market.
A number of the models released in the UK will be used by the utility company Scottish and Southern Energy who helped fund the development of the car. The rest will be loaned to members of the public as part of the government scheme.
Development of Tourneo was also partly funded by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) who are behind government’s electro-car scheme.
Ford’s UK Chairman Joe Greenwell said: 'Battery electric vehicles represent an important step in Ford's pursuit of delivering more efficient and sustainable mobility solutions”.
