Ferrari's Massa through the worst
Felipe Massa, Ferrari’s Formula One driver suffered a head on crash after his two feet slammed on the throttle and brake simultaneously, once being hit on the head by a 1kg spring from Ruben Barrichello’s car. Massa underwent crucial surgery overnight on his fractured skull and his surgeon reported today that his left eye was badly damaged in the race where he collided with a tyre bank in the Hungary Grand Prix on Sunday, 26 July. Barrichello sent his deepest concerns for both Massa and his family and he went on to describe his tortured thoughts as he continued through the race. His own engineering team have yet been unable to comment on what they think made the spring release itself from the car as the racer has to date been totally reliable. Barrichello also encouraged for more stringent regulations in Formula One calling upon the recent death of the Formula Two driver Henry Surtees, son of John Surtees earlier last week as evidence for a vital change, ‘I don’t believe in coincidences.’ Lewis Hamilton the winner of Sunday’s Grand Prix wished Massa a speedy recovery on behalf of all the drivers in the race and pointed out that Massa had a baby on the way and needed to get fit and healthy to fully enjoy fatherhood. Luca di Montezemolo, Ferrari president, flew out to join the Massa family and hushed any rumours of replacing Massa if his injuries provided too much of a hindrance to race again. Montezemolo conveyed that ‘Massa is part of the Ferrari family, not just part of the team and our sole concern is to see his full and speedy recovery’ Insure My Vehicle provides vehicle insurance for van, car and motorbike owners with comprehensive standard cover and valuable online discounts.
