Lotus electric and Hybrid vehicles are to be fitted with artificial engine noises that will be fitted to the front of the car to replicate the sound of a conventional engine.
The vehicles artificial noise will kick in when the cars motor is switched on and will mimic the sound of an engine speeding up or slowing down. The speaker will switch itself off when the cars petrol engine takes over.
The invention of this new technology has come after concerns were stressed over the safety of other road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists as they are unable to hear the noise of a electric powered vehicle approaching them. This is especially hazardous for blind and partially sighted people who really on the noise of traffic to cross the road.
