Motorists are being urged to take more care when driving through roadworks after statistics released by the Highways Agency reflected the shocking numbers of deaths and injuries to road workers each year due to the carelessness of drivers.
Whilst driving through roadworks on motorways and A roads, motorists are required to drive at 50 mph for the safety of the workman. The signs and barriers are put in place for a reason, requesting that drivers take in to consideration the workers that are doing their jobs meters away from cars travelling at speed, they also need to be fully aware of what is going on as one little accident could risk the roadworkers lives.
Between 2003 and 2008, 11 roadworkers were killed during works on motorways and A roads, and 104 were seriously injured in England.
