Driver pays £61,000 to cyclist
A cyclist who was knocked off his bike by a van whilst cycling on the road has been awarded £61,000 in damages. The cyclist presented medical evidence that his hip joint had been damaged by the collision. The court heard that the cyclist had been fit and active prior to the accident, cycling every day. This was deemed a genuine accident and the van driver was not breaking the law (drink driving etc) so the third party liability cover of his insurance will have paid this. Otherwise, this would have had to have had to been paid out of his own pocket. It is important that you know your insurer has a good claims record and will treat you fairly if you have an accident. The cheapest policy is sometimes a false economy. Third party and comprehensive motor insurance is available from insuremyvehicle.co.uk.
