Drink drivers are ignoring the warning signs
During the month of June, Thames Valley Police carried out a crackdown on drink drivers, arresting more than 300 drivers out of the 3,646 that we stopped and breathalysed. Although 9 percent of those drivers arrested showed to still be breaking the law, it is at least a decrease in last year national campaign figures where 15 percent failed the breath test. The national campaign to reduce the problem of drink driving is obviously still not hitting drivers hard enough, especially considering all of the warnings on how having just one drink can put both the drivers life and other road users lives at risk. The Thames Valley Police, also as part of the crackdown, breathalysed 1,108 drivers after they were involved in a collision, with 84 of those failing the test. Being stopped by the police and arrested for providing either a positive breathe test, or refusing to take the test, will provide drivers with a driving ban of at least 12 months, the possibility of prison for six months and a fine of up to £5,000. The consequences of drink driving can not only provide you with a ban, but they can be disastrous so next time you fancy a drink, book a taxi or just simply don’t drink.
