A tough new crackdown on drivers who fail to tax their vehicles is to take place this week, by the police and the driver & vehicle agency over a two week period.
The operation will be focusing on unlicensed and runabout vehicles which have not been taxed for more than 28 days. The vehicles that are found will be clamped and towed away.
Police are aiming to get these vehicles off of the roads as they play such a threat to other road users and pedestrians. Vehicles that are unlicensed tend to be un-roadworthy and driven by people with no driving licence or insurance and more often than not they are used to carry out crimes as they have not been registered, therefore difficult to trace.
Drivers who wish to get their vehicles back must pay £200 for their release or they can present a valid tax disc, along with £80. Any vehicles that have not been claimed after seven days will be crushed.
