Commercial vehicle checks conducted
Brighouse police are conducting police checks on commercial vehicles, including heavy good vehicles and vans on the town’s roads in a bid to improve road safety. Working alongside the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) and HM Revenue and customer’s officials, the police are clamping down on the drivers that are breaking safety laws by driving dangerous vehicles. The checks carried out will look at the steering, tyres, diesel they are using and the amount of hours that they have been on the road. Heavy good vehicles are expensive to run and the process of obtaining a licence is difficult so Police need to check that this is all being done legally, improving road safety and reducing the number of road related casualties. If a vehicle is a being operated illegally, the likelihood of it being maintained is very low, therefore the need to check to prevent any mayhem on our roads is a priority, however so far the majority of commercial vehicles that have been stopped by the police are road legal.
