Statistics published by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) has shown that during 2007-2008, commercial vehicles had the worst MOT pass rate of any vehicle on UK roads.
A failure rate of 44.7 was recorded for commercial vehicles, compared to 35.2 for cars and smaller vans during 2007-2008.
The high failure rates of MOT’s has given the Retail Motor Industry Federation a break in the market. The low pass rates are providing commercial vehicle mechanics with a way to develop their businesses as it is obvious they are not being provided with enough maintenance.
If commercial vehicles were looked after on a regular basis and checks were carried out to fix the small faults, in the long run it would be more cost effective.
