Commercial vehicles deemed too dangerous for our roads
The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency have removed 26% more dangerous vehicles off the road in 2008/2009 then they did during the previous year. The total number of vehicles that VOSA removed from the road reached 36,500 an increase of around 9,500. Although the Government has urged VOSA to concentrate more on how the vehicles are driven and the performance of the driver than that of the condition of the vehicle. The National Services Agency said how it is not the condition of the vehicle that causes a majority of accidents it is the way in which they are driven. They claim that by increasing efforts on stopping sites would help them archive this goal. Head of the National Services Agency, Amyas Morse said: "VOSA needs to focus its resources on those activities and areas where it can have most impact; for example, by looking at where its staff and stopping sites are located around the country. It needs to help to educate commercial drivers and properly identify those vehicles, which pose the greatest danger. It also needs to work with other organisations, at home and abroad, to ensure that drivers and vehicles from outside the UK are as safe as those from within the UK."
