Commercial vehicle sales are unstable

The recession has affected a large number of businesses during the recession none more so that the commercial industry. The amount of construction work available has seen a significant drop over the past 2 years, leaving many UK tradesmen out of a job. While this has lead to many workers seeking work in other areas such as administration, some have chosen to stick to their trade but to do so as a self-employed worker. This new trend has lead to the number of light commercial vehicles sales boom over the past 18 months.

This demand has meant that the average selling price for used commercial vehicles has increased. The increase in demand is so high that at this time there are not enough commercial vehicles to meet current requirements, which the Glass's Guide believe will continue throughout the first half of 2010.

While this is good news for some retailers those looking to sell new vans are finding the recession increasingly difficult. If this continues we could find many commercial vehicle retailers heading for administration, unless manufacturers allow for significant discounts on new vans.
