A recent report showing figures that suggest that the UK is lifting out from the recession has come 12 months too late, as far as the commercial vehicle manufacturers are concerned.
Amidst the unusually quiet metal finishing factory floor in the West Midlands lays a 5m tall pile of sheet metal panels, meant for LDV vans. A company that was once booming now holds its breath in the hope that the vehicle market picks up soon otherwise R&M Metal Finishing could join the many failing manufacturers in the UK.
The company specialises in painting the metal components used in vehicle manufacturing, but recent months have seen the collapse in one of the UK's largest van manufacturers LDV ending a wealthy relationship with R&M Metal Finishing, as well as a trail of debt.
The company is one of many across the UK that have seen the worse drop in commercial vehicle demand ever in Britain. While the rest of Britain can finally start to recover the vehicle manufacturing companies have taken such a blow that it is unclear as to whether they will survive.
