A car crime clinic, which is hoping to attract many motorists in combating registration plate theft, will be taking place in Stockport this weekend, Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October at Heaton Moors Moortop Pub.
Officers and the AA are going to be on hand at the clinic, giving motorists crime prevention advice and fitting number plates with special screws that cannot be easily undone. This will only take a few moments and is free, greatly reducing the chance of vehicles identities being stolen.
Criminals often take number plates off of vehicles during the night and put them on their own vehicles which are usually of the same make and model to give them a false identity. The vehicles are then used in burglaries and other criminal offences which will then get traced back to the registration plate owner.
