Car Club scheme launched in London

The mayor is backing the new scheme, which has been launched in London in preparation for the 2012 Olympic games.

The scheme will encourage drivers to sell their vehicle in return they will receive a free membership to the pay as you go car club for two years with £250 worth of credit. The Streetcar programme will charge members £3.95 per hour for the use of a vehicle. They currently have 1000 cars and vans with plans to expand it by 500 in another 12 months.

More than half of inner London households do not own a car, however the statistics have shown that there are more than three million cars registered to homes in London.

It is believed that the Streetcar scheme will be popular as many residents will not have the expense of maintaining, taxing, mot and insuring their vehicles or the worry of car crime in the London boroughs, they will be able to use the vehicles at their own leisure and will save a fortune.
