Call for EU help continues

The sales of commercial vehicles have fallen drastically over the past months leading to commercial vehicle manufacturers calling for action to be taken. One of the men leading the campaign is Scania chief executive Leif Ostling, who has said: “Governments must act to prevent the failing of viable businesses, and they must do so in a coordinated way.”

The EU Competitiveness Council has met to discuss the financial and economic implications that has swept its way through the commercial vehicle market, leading to a sharp decline in demand for commercial vehicles. Some of the figures shown really tell the story on how badly the market has been hit, sales from heavy trucks where at 10,000 in the first quarter of 2009 in comparison to that of 100,000 a year ago.

This downturn in sales has lead to a massive strain in the sector putting jobs and companies at risk.
