Calls for the standardisation of the rules governing internal no-smoking stickers in vans have come from Leaseplan, one of the biggest vehicle leasing companies in the UK.
Currently van drivers have to display different sized and styled stickers in each country of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
In England the sticker needs to be 70mm in diameter, in Wales and Northern Ireland it has to be 75mm in diameter and in Scotland the sticker has to have explanation and warning text underneath.
A spokesman for Leaseplan has called the situation “ridiculous”, as its causing confusion in companies with van fleets whose vehicles regularly drive between the four home nations.
The enforcement of the ban should be constant throughout the UK just like the requirement not to smoke in a company vehicle.
