British manufacturing has suffered its worst decline in almost 30 years.
Car manufacturers were amongst one of the worst hit. Their out put is 18 percent down in the last three months. Nissan have announced that they will be axing 1,200 positions as a result of the recession.
The news comes as a shock to its staff, up until the end of September Nissan was still on target for a record year of production. Since September sales have plummeted alongside economic confidence. The Credit crunch is affecting everyone and making it harder for buyers to afford new cars.
Jaguar Land Rover has laid off 1,450 people in the UK and Britain’s major car manufacturers have instituted unusually long periods of downtime over Christmas.
Recent surveys have shown that car production was down by a third last November and commercial vehicle sales were down by more than 50 percent.
