Boris backs electric car
It would seem the government's electric car scheme is finding support across the country. After Birmingham and Coventry saw the trial run of 110 Mitsubishi i-MiEVs across the city centre, London is set to see over 25,000 electric car charging point instated for 2015. The London Mayor, Boris Johnson aired his pledge to support the green movement which is flowing through the capital by supporting new infrastructure needed to host electric cars. By switching to the electric cousins of petrol cars, green house emission could be cut dramatically. However a major disadvantage to electric models was their need for regular charging. Johnson claims that over 22,500 points would be installed at workplaces so employees could charge their cars before their trip home in under 5 years. A further 500 would be built on the city's streets and over 2,000 would be available for commuters to use in car parks across London. Johnson also promised to acquire over 1,000 electric cars which produce over 50 percent less carbon emissions than diesel cars. If commuters were to switch to a more 'green' form of private transport which is also far more economical to run, than London's air is also set to clean up. Johnson's electric car scheme will also have the added support of advice lines and a website to help commuters track down their nearest charge point. The operation will also target businesses to help them switch to more environmentally friendly ways of commuting. Insure My Vehicle provides vehicle insurance for car owners across the country using low car insurance premiums with high levels of standard cover.
