Derby County Council has signed a £7,000 contract with Green Road Technologies to install black box style technology into their vehicles to find out if employees are driving safely and economically.
The technology will be placed into the vehicles without the drivers knowledge as part of a three month pilot to see if their drivers are braking too suddenly, pulling away at speed and generally driving too fast.
The black box will send the information, which is based on a traffic light signal with red being the worst, back to a computer to aid the council with training to resolve any problems the drivers have.
These boxes have already been used by other large companies, proving a great success and decreasing the number of road accidents by company vehicles.
