6 cars lost to the Bristol Channel

Many tourists who are unused to the local tide patterns on coastal areas have always been at mercy to the seawaters. Many a car has been lost in the car park when the tide sweeps in stranding the four-wheeled vehicles where they stand. Many a family has had to call on car insurance to help dig them out of a sandy crisis.

The Burnham Area Rescue Boat has been called out to 6 stranded cars in the last week as tourists drive out their rented cars or family mobiles out onto the mudflats exposed by the tide to enjoy the beach.

However the Bristol channel is well known by locals to have treacherous and strong currents which quickly sweep across the muddy banks and it is not only cars which have got into difficulty when holidaymakers and beach-goers become overwhelmed by the incoming tide.

Lately the rescue boat had to pull two men from the water at Braean, Somerset on Saturday 22 August as they had attempted to remove their ford fiesta from the water after it had got stuck in the mud. The two men were taken to safety unhurt however the sea unfortunately claimed the car, as it was too lately to rescue it using a tractor.

Insure My Vehicle provides car insurance for vehicle owners across the UK and can help retrieve the inconvenient costs of losing your car to theft, fire and flood.
