The new mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has axed the proposed £25 congestion charge for those cars emitting more than 225 grams per kilometre of CO2.
The tax to be introduced on 27th October was planned by Mr Johnson’s predecessor Ken Livingstone, who had also planned to abolish the £8 charge for the lowest emission cars.
That idea has also been stopped by Mr Johnson claiming that it would only increase the amount of congestion by letting in small cars for free.
The action comes after last week’s announcement that Mr Johnson will be reviewing the western extension of the congestion charge zone.
